As a doula, Megan strives to give the personal care that most women long for during pregnancy and birth. She helps families prepare for the arrival of their new baby, and accompanies them in labor to facilitate a safe and meaningful birth experience. She gives mothers physical comfort (supportive touch, massage, etc) and offers both parents emotional and informational support.
Megan shows women how to trust in their innate ability to give birth. She supports fully informed consent for all procedures, yet understands that medical technology can be a blessing during births that have true complications. Her role and goal is to support you in achieving the birth experience that you desire, and appreciating the birth that you have as it unfolds.
Megan has attended hospital births, home births, water births, inductions, forceps & vacuum deliveries, VBACs and cesareans; helped parents heal from earlier traumatic birth experiences; supported same-sex couples and couples living far from home and outside their cultures of origin; and smoothed the way through challenges with breastfeeding, sleep patterns and health concerns.
Megan experienced gentle births with her own children in Australia, supported birthing women for several years in Germany, and has been practicing as a DONA-trained birth doula since 2006 in Benton and Linn Counties. She also works as a science writer. She lives happily in Corvallis with her husband and daughters.
